CITIZENSHIP TODAY

I hope you might value this ‘open global table’ reflection on CITIZENSHIP

CITIZENSHIP, THE SPECTRUM

OF BELONGING AND RESPONSIBILITY

Ranging from the Internet to the widest planetary commitments,
recognising both self and to whom we feel accountable.
Personal local citizenship is our neighbourhood belonging,
thence municipal participation and cultural identity.
This, the citizenship of being known and being needed.

Thence national citizenship with rights, protections,
duties and shared narratives;
providing structured security as a basic layer of belonging.
Opening us to regional and transnational citizenship,
to Commonwealth and professional or thematic networks.

So to the maturity and reality of Interdependent
economies, ecosystems and ideas beyond borders.
Thence, maturity in Citizenship as planetary responsibility,
where human rights, shared stewardship
and integral solidarity contain our rich differences.

This is no legal category, but a moral, spiritual and scientific one,
manifesting common good, planetary and ecological citizenship,
as the cosmic horizon, even beyond Big Bang,
includes humanity’s incarnation as one Earth community,
as matter manifests spirit in a stronger light.

Accumulating technology in Artificial Intelligence,
frees us to understand our inter-being with all life,
confirming our ecological ethic in spiritual kinship.
Citizenship becomes a nested set of circles,
honouring the local in the embrace of the planetary.

The ‘Ground of All Being’ now defines eternity as
contemporary matter exists in endless energy.
Jesus our inspiring model of the human form
humbly, non-violently, brings universal life down to the scale
to be lived in our maturity by each one of us.
