The Christian Council for Monetary Justice is appraising its many years of advancing the findings of a 1962 Report: “Money – A Christian View.” The findings ofthe report were frank in describing the financial system that ruled our culture as fraudulent. CCMJ is now involved in work through wide networking on how we combine BOTH the treatment of symptoms AND the development of structural cures to the system of global housekeeping that has gone so badly awry. There is still time to invite others to join us…. details on attendance and choice of venues…
I’m still weighing up a rich range of comments. Meanwhile, you might want to ponder the attempt to set down a major issue on single page below. Peter Challen, Chair, CCMJ.
BOTH/AND – THE INTERWOVEN CHALLENGES WE FACE:
RE-FORM – palliatives, caring for the dying – treating symptoms – Research among associates has led to the conclusion that laudable initiatives like the UN’s MDG’s goals, Positive Money and other reforms *cannot*, in principle, be achieved; and that the World Bank advocacy of change *cannot*, in principle lead to a qualitative change to the social system that germinates the conditions for suffering. Why not? Because the IMF/World Bank and the Financial sector all work within a fiscal/financial framework that is structured to *reproduce*- to literally fabricate – the kind of inequality that widens the inequality gap, accentuates poverty, kills children in Africa and the aged in the rich countries (50,000 people die every year, prematurely, in England and Wales alone, because of that fiscal/financial system – many of those people losing up to 12 years of life they could otherwise enjoy on earth).
RE-DESIGN – curatives – acknowledging and altering the cause. The Social Contract developed over the last 800 years has a bias to property ownership that has led to asset enclosure and wage
enslavement, becoming] a Statecraft of Greed that has generated a culture of socially acceptable cheating in which all become embroiled and to which enterprise becomes addicted. Institutional formation and drag makes identification of and change to the faulty structures less and less possible. We must formulate a new social contract and re-design a systemic structure based on inclusive justice within an ecological community. To achieve this we must create a critical mass to demand and support it.
TACKLING ‘THE DEEP STATE – meaning a hybrid association of elements of government and parts of top-level finance and industry with roots deep into the past [e.g. Magna Carta!] that is effectively able to govern without reference to the consent of the governed as expressed through the formal political process.
THE RE-FORMERS vitally offer a profusion of nostrums to turn the nation around: • 100% banking • public financing of elections to sever the artery of money between the corporate components of the Deep State and financially dependent elected officials; • government “insourcing” to reverse the tide of outsourcing of government functions and the conflicts of interest that it creates; • a tax policy that values human labour over financial manipulation and serves the eco-community for its own complex, inter-dependent, productive energies; • a trading policy that favours productive services over exploitative investment; • etc.
ALL OF THAT IS NECESSARY, BUT NOT SUFFICIENT. ∫ The Snowden revelations (the impact of which HAS been surprisingly strong), and much that has followed, show that there is now a deep but as yet inchoate hunger for change.
THE RE-DESIGNERS seek to understand and change the root causes. What we lack is a figure with the serene self-confidence to tell us that the twin idols of financial monopoly and corporate power are outworn dogmas that have nothing more to offer us. Thus disenthralled, the people themselves will unravel the Deep State with surprising speed, by evolving a systemic economy founded in the inclusive justice of an ecological community.
