The Moral Maze, Morality and Money – a critique

The Moral Maze, BBC Radio 4 of 8/2/23 on Morality and Money, came over as a disturbing suggestion of human narcissism devoid of any awareness of what both the Mystics and Quantum Physics have taught us. No sense conveyed of interdisciplinary new knowledge of ecology, of facts of climate change, of hazards of exponential excess growth.
I heard no indication of the science represented by James Lovelock’s ‘Gaia’ [Mother Earth], with her integrity ever in enriching creative tension with Earth’s total kin-ship of infinite variety. No hint of many leading thinkers who have called across centuries for underlying systemic structural redesign free of 1. Usury,  2. centuries of Theft of Nature’s Gifted Commons  3. the quest for authentic Community and Co-operation replacing Controlling Hierarchies.
That is:
1. USURY: requiring sovereign money creation free of usurious interest.
2. THEFT of the COMMONS requiring a basic Land Value Tax indictive of stewardship not ownership.
3. INSTITUTIONALISED, HIERARCHICAL controls, largely immune to evolution and cosmic consciousness.

It feels that our CCMJ, Global Open Table, Critical Thinking, Seven Steps to Justice, and various, though sadly uncollaborative, other allied agencies, studies and promotions have had little impact in trying to bring attention to the 1962 Report on a Christian View of Wealth [Money], dealing with at least the first of the three structural changes we must face. I seek any improvement to the response above and names of any who would endorse some such letter to BBC Radio 4, and the Church Times.

In stark and inspiring contrast, the Radio 4 programme was followed in ‘Four Thought‘ by a profoundly inspiring 12-minute essay by Dr. Farrah Jarral on CARE as the heart of HUMAN COMMUNITY.
In my view it sounded like a contemporary interpretation of that brief but vast BOTH/AND concept of ‘Loving God and Every Neighbour as your best soul-self,’ a commitment expressed in all the great religious traditions, though rarely extended beyond the Personal into the Societal and Global reaches of our Stewardship and Trusteeship.
Yours, Peter

Dear Associates,
My Moral Maze ‘Morality and Money’ critique led to Fred Harrison sharing this example of the application of profound structural change  in a particular opportunity – see below. How many other specific applications can we find and share through our networking?  Please share any that you encourage or of which you become aware. Collaboration in the creation of a critical mass capable of advancing structural change is vital, but all too rare.

I have sketched the plan for rebuilding Ukraine on a new basis – see attached article – Out of the ashes: Ukraine and the new social paradigm – not the formula advocated by the IMF.

10/2/2023: Even as I pressed ‘send’ minutes ago, I saw this ‘PS OnPoint’  [Project Syndicate] circulation of an article: Decolonizing Global Financeby Hippolyte Fofack.

With the world shifting irreversibly toward greater multipolarity, revamping the governance of major international financial institutions is critical to renewing their credibility and legitimacy. Decades of small tweaks and marginal adjustments have been not only insufficient but often counterproductive. More comment please……………….
