Help us continue Rev Paul Nicholson’s valuable work

Dear CCMJ Associates,
Continuing to tackle structures after the exceptional example set by the late Paul Nicholson.
Paul was a rare exemplar of holding the creative tension between pastoral sensitivities and the prophetic challenge of both word and action.
 Peter

Dear Peter, Thank you so much for supporting of Taxpayers Against Poverty, and our task to continue the valuable work of the inspiring Rev Paul Nicolson. We are really encouraged by all the support and good wishes and the kind words about a remarkable man.

There is a way you can really help continue Rev Paul’s work
Since Rev Paul’s death in March, we are determined that his legacy will be strong and impactful. Paul knew what needed to be done to fix the burning injustices and was more interested in talking about the answers rather than just the problems. He was of course deeply caring and also helped so many people suffering hardship directly with his advice, action and determination. It is a tough act to follow!
Our focus is on the structural causes rather than the symptoms, by bringing systemic change in the economy rather than papering over the cracks with solutions to the problems caused by a flawed economic system. The lack of action to end unnecessary hardship is a political choice and we are seeking to change that urgently.

Team in action
Hopefully you have had a chance to read our monthly newsletters giving an update. Since March we have put an executive team in place to carry on Rev Paul’s work, which we are so pleased includes Krissie, Rev Paul’s daughter. We have strengthened our partnership with Compassion in Politics which Paul first started a year ago. We have also teamed up with the Coalition for Economic Justice to build a network of like-minded campaigning groups to strengthen our message.

Help needed
We now need to seize the opportunity and ramp up our efforts. We are all volunteers and if we are to sustain Rev Paul’s legacy, we need to build a core team and resources which requires funds. So, one way you can really help is by giving £5 per month – or if you can and are willing, may be more – but also you may know some others that would like to contribute. We will keep everyone informed of our progress and be fully transparent with our finances and activities. Active projectsAmongst the projects we are working on are:Promoting an Elimination of Homelessness Bill

Promoting a Minimum Income Standards Bill
Promoting a Covid Legacy Bill placing a duty on government to secure health and wellbeing not just economic growth  Organising workshops on compassionate politics for Parliamentarians and councillorsA code of compassionate ethics for politicians and those in public life to build and go beyond the Nolan Principles.

Supporting the All Party Parliamentary Group on Compassionate Politics Celebrating Rev Paul and his work. We are planning an event as a celebration of Rev Paul’s life which we had hoped could be this year but now maybe next. We will keep you posted. If you can, please do.

We have to be blunt: Please could you give a £5 per month or more if you can to support this important activity and to sustain Rev Paul’s work. Please could you talk to your family, friends and work colleagues and see if they could help. What drives us is social and economic injustice. What inspires us is the smile, wit and dogged determination of the Rev Paul and I hope it will inspire you too.

If you can give more help, or can encourage others, you can donate via our website here: www.taxpayersagainstpoverty.org.uk/donate

Thank you so much and we look forward to meeting up sometime soon,
Tom, John, Jennifer, Krissie, Matt & Siobhan
