Easter Greetings as we each seek to play our small but significant part in the new life we must help to formulate.
Has anyone in this network fed ‘XR / Global Justice Now’ with thoughts on the interactive structural trio of a] The usurious money system, b] Theft of the Commons [Land Value rent],
c] Corporate and Capital destruction of Common Wealth? Good to have your contribution.
Peter

Is this email not displaying correctly? View in your browser![]() Hi Peter, After nearly six months of planning by Extinction Rebellion and everyone else involved, The Big One is really taking shape. Over 70 organisations have signed up to support, making this a truly unique and important collective action. The drivers of both the climate and ecological emergency and rising global inequality are baked into the very fabric of our economy and society. We need a fundamental change to the global economic system, which will require systematic mobilisation and campaigning to overcome powerful vested interests. It has never been more important that we in the climate and global justice movements find ways of working together. In this email I’ll gather up all the latest info on The Big One, and try to answer some of the questions I’m sure you all have. While I’ll try to be as in-depth as possible, lots of the details won’t be finalised until a few days before. To receive our final update—including our jam-packed timetable of workshops and events—right to your inbox, sign up here: Send me final details for the The Big One Outline of the weekend The Big One will run from Friday 21 to Monday 24 April, from 11am-6pm every day. As it is a lawful and peaceful protest, designed to be inclusive and welcoming to anyone and everyone who might want to attend, it is being thoroughly police-liaised. A condition of this is that any infrastructure, like gazebos, is packed away from 6pm every day, and set out again the next morning. Many of the roads around parliament will be closed to protect and facilitate the crowds who are gathering to protest. On Friday and Monday the People’s Picket will see picket lines around all the government departments in the area, flooding Westminster in a wave of flags and banners, and communicating to decision-makers how the climate crisis affects every job/department. On Saturday and Sunday the focus will be on the more central areas of Parliament Square and Abingdon Street. Saturday will be creative, colourful and extremely family friendly. There will be a short biodiversity march from 1-3pm, beginning and ending in Parliament Square. On Sunday the London Marathon will intersect with the northern edge of Parliament Square, drawing large crowds, and providing an excellent opportunity for outreach. Due to road closures for the marathon, events on Saturday and Sunday won’t stray north of Parliament Square. What’s Global Justice Now doing? As part of the People’s Picket, Global Justice Now will be picketing the Department for Business and Trade and Department of Health and Social Care for the first half of Friday, likely 12-2pm. The picket at the trade department will include an exciting creative action to accompany the handing in of our petition asking the UK to leave the climate-wrecking Energy Charter Treaty. We’ll be running a stall across the whole weekend, where we will do outreach – giving out campaign materials and talking to people, and which can function as a base for any of our activists and supporters. We’ll also be running our own programme of events, including a daily Breakfast and Briefing at 11am, workshops, talks, a walking tour, and hopefully some evening comedy! We’ll be situated on Abingdon Street, near College Green, but may move north towards Parliament Square for the Saturday and Sunday. Keep an eye out for our pink gazebo! There will always be people at the stall, so drop by to say hello, meet fellow global justice activists and get involved in some of the many exciting events we’re scheduling. We’ll release the full schedule of events a few days beforehand, so please sign up below to receive this by email. We’ll also share any updates to the event page. Send me final details for the The Big One Get involved: Please support our pickets outside the trade and health departments. Bring your flags, placards and banners, or come and grab some from our tent from 11am on Friday – we have plenty spare! We’ll also have spare materials if you want to make your own placards with us. We still need volunteers to help us run the campaign stall, including setting up and packing away and doing outreach, chatting to people about our campaigns. If you’re happy to help with either (or both!) please email activism@globaljustice.org.uk. If you or your group are involved in anything exciting over the weekend, let us know! We’d be happy to support or promote anything organised by our activists and allies. Find out more: For information about the wider event, including about accommodation, programming, site map, what to bring and other ways to get involved, check out the XR website or their very handy and exhaustive info doc. I’d also recommend joining their broadcast channel on Telegram for live updates before and throughout The Big One. If you can’t find your answers there, you can email activism@globaljustice.org.uk.
