I wonder if you or anyone you know is involved, or would wish to be, in this challenging event, described in the GLobal Justice gathering,’Hope in the Dark’ in Sheffield in July. The work of many of you in this network should be known at such a gathering. Or you might wish to offer input in advance to the conference planners.  It would be so valuable to have any report on, or hint of, facing up to the three interlocking structural faults of \u2022 an exploitative money system, allowing differentials to grow exponentially \u2022 theft of the commons tackled by a land value tax and by facing up to our stewardship rather than ownership of Gaia’s gifted resources \u2022 the patriarchal and institutional rigidity dominating our culture

<\/a>We’ve shamelessly stolen the title of Rebecca Solnit’s book,\u00a0Hope in the Dark<\/em>, for our national gathering this year to help us think about the relationship between hope and the kind of big structural change we need in this climate emergency we’re living through.

As temperatures rise year on year, the whole world is becoming more vulnerable to climate chaos. Yet the worst effects are mostly suffered by those communities who have contributed least to climate breakdown. To have any hope of adapting to a changing climate, while also preventing the crisis from getting even worse, we need a global just transition \u2013 but countries in the global south are hamstrung by a world economy that works in the interests of the rich.
Colonialism established the world that gave us climate breakdown, as well as the vast disparity in wealth and power that is compounding climate injustice today. Debt, unequal trade and corporate power are driving inequality, poverty and carbon emissions. That’s why we need\u00a0reparative climate justice<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 not just compensating for losses but repairing the damage done by climate change and ending the economic violence that’s driving it.
