“I will put it in just a few short sentences…
\nTo be admired in her loveliness.
\nTo be tasted in her delicious fruits.
\nTo be listened to in her teaching.
\nTo be endured in the severity of her discipline.
\nTo be cared for as a maternal source from whence we come,
\na destiny to which we return. It\u2019s very simple.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

At a Gaia gathering in 2003,\u00a0philosopher, ‘geologian’ and Gaia ancestor Thomas Berry was asked\u00a0‘what does the Earth desire?’. This poem was his response.<\/p>\n

Thomas’s\u00a0great gift\u00a0was the foresight and clarity with which he\u00a0was able to distill the essence of\u00a0the transformation required of those of us born of and living in\u00a0industrial societies<\/strong>\u00a0at this time of\u00a0crisis.<\/p>\n

He called on us, our movements, to\u00a0“transform the western industrial institutions of religion, education, governance and politics from anthropocentric preoccupation to an Earth-centred\u00a0understanding\u00a0of our role and responsibilities as humans.”<\/strong><\/p>\n

This way of\u00a0living in right-relationship\u00a0with\u00a0our\u00a0planet<\/strong>\u00a0home\u00a0is what Thomas called\u2018Earth Jurisprudence\u2019.<\/strong><\/p>\n

To mark the 10th Anniversary of Thomas’s passing, and his great legacy,\u00a0from 1-7th June\u00a0we will dedicate a week of communications to exploring\u00a0Earth Jurisprudence<\/strong>. We will\u00a0celebrate\u00a0Thomas’s legacy\u00a0and the potency of his message at a\u00a0time\u00a0when we are called to take a stand for life.<\/p>\n
